Our Mission
Welcome to the Pancreatic Cancer Support Group Study site. This site is designed for people with recurrent or metastatic pancreatic cancer. Nicole Goetz, a nurse practitioner, and Fran Heller, a palliative care social worker, have worked for many years with patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. They have designed this special type of support group. Unlike other support groups where participants chat about whatever is on their minds, we will have discussions based on specific topics and readings.
The group will be moderated by both Nicole and Fran. This is considered to be a study because participants will be asked to complete short questionnaires online asking about your quality of life, ability to look outside of your illness, and depression. At the completion of the group you will be asked to complete the surveys again. It is our hope that this group will help you find meaning in your life within the context of your illness.
Our goal is to learn if a support group designed this way will positively affect you and others with advanced pancreatic cancer. While a support group of this type was originally studied and developed by a physician at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, ours is similarly designed but will be conducted online. We hope you decide to join us.
